Introduction to Traditional Irish Music
A foundational course on common scales, rhythms, and ornamentation on
Irish Whistle and Bodhrán to introduce skills necessary for progression in session tunes and towards other Irish
instruments. This course is designed to combine the classical approaches common in modern musicianship alongside
the oral traditions more common in passing along these tunes to allow students to continue in a variety of
potential environments.
Intermediate and Advanced Offerings by Private and Reserved Group Lessons
- Irish Fiddle - a transition from classical violin to the nuances of Irish fiddle, including unique
ornamentation, bowing styles, and a guide to progressed session tunes
- Irish Whistle - low and high whistle advanced tunes and fingering techniques, with guidance to
professional grade instrument selection as desired
- Irish Flute - a transition from Irish Whistle to the more difficult finger stretch, embouchure, and
breath work of the Irish Flute
- Bodhrán - advanced rhythmic skills, stick work, and percussion development for the traditional
multi-tone frame drum
- Uilleann Pipes - transitional fingering from whistle, bellows and bag work, maintenance and reed
modification needed to move through this nuanced and complex instrument
- Irish Harp - the iconic instrument of Ireland, learn classic tunes on full size harp, the insignia of
Ireland
